Global warming can occur as long-term heating and it’s a threat to life but tree planting is one of the simplest and most effective ways of tackling climate change (global warming) caused by greenhouse gases because as trees grow they absorb carbon dioxide (CO2), a major greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.
Annually, 14th of July has been institutionalized to be the “Tree Planting day” in Lagos State. In other to dutifully carry out this exercise as part of our committed effort in sustaining the environment and mitigating the effect of green house gase. Rotaract District 9110 embarked on its annual tree planting exercise.
The Supporting the Environment committee, Rotaract District 9110 ably led by PP Ismail ATITEBI got the privilege of adopting a Students’ Relaxation park at Government Senior College, Agege, Lagos.
In tandem with the theme for the Tree Planting exercise across the world this year which is: “In Harmony with Nature”
Rotaractors from District 9110 ably led by the Imaginative DRR – Rotaractor Abdullahi A. AFOLABI in its bid to ensure sustainability of the trees planted in our Rotaract District embarked on its maiden One Rotaractor, One Tree Challenge which nothing less of 120 Rotaractors across the Rotaract district pledged to be part of.
The Host Principal, Mrs. Bola ÀLÀMÚ of Government Senior College, Agege thanked the leadership of Rotaract District 9110 for choosing their school for the Adoption and beautification of it’s students’ relaxation Park also known as the school roundabout.
The District Rotaract Representative – Abdullahi A. AFOLABI in his words said the tree planting exercise is one of Rotary’s Area of Focus and it’s important for the Rotaract district to commemorate the day and as well note that it is imperative that safeguarding the environment is a collective responsibility of everyone.
The flag off project which availed the Rotaract district an opportunity to plant an approximated 30 different species of fruit, flowers and shrub seedlings in strategic location in the school had in attendance, Rotaractors from various clubs across the district, Principal and Vice Principals of Government College, Agege, Interactors of Government College, An officer representing Education District 1, Agege amongst several others.
