ROTARACT DISTRICT 9110 – 2020 AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AGAINST SEXUAL VIOLENCE – “NO TO RAPE”

OPPORTUNITY GIVEN, OPPORTUNITY WELL UTILISED: COUNTLESS OPPORTUNITIES AHEAD

It’s been a long, challenging, memorable and time consuming experience championing the course of Rotaract District 9110 Awareness Committee. One that has come with plenty lessons and a renewed strive to do more in terms of speaking out through advocacy.

The Rotaract District 9110 Awareness Committee from inception thought of doing it a different way and a different approach we employed. From making it a Rotaract Centered program to developing into a general youth centered program where all Youths in the City of Abeokuta and beyond came together in one accord to jointly and in one voice say NO to Rape and Sexual Abuse.

HIGHLIGHTS
It was indeed a content packed campaign because WE DID NOT JUST TREK, but WE EQUIPED OUR KNOWLEDGE, REGISTER OUR BRAND THROUGH ADVOCACY VISIT and EXECUTED A PROJECT.
– the visitation to Sekobod Nigeria Limited a plastic recycling company was an avenue for Rotaractors to be aware of the beauty in waste management business.
– Our Advocacy visit to the Commissioner for Youth and Sport was equally an opportunity to make the government of Ogun State aware of our youth based organization called Rotaract.
– and the erection of SAY NO TO RAPE signage at the palace of ALAKE of Egba Land was indeed a beauty to our brand.

I would not but appreciate all our sponsors; PDG Dehinde Shoga, Rtn. Adeoti Kazeem, Rtn Lasisi, Rtn. Williams, Rtn. Alfred Ayaniyi, PP Muhideen Bello, Rtn Tony Abu who did represent the DRC, Rotary Club of Abeokuta, partnering organizations, Gender mobile, NSCDC, NYCN and most importantly, registered participants who went beyond their means to join hands together with us to make it a memorable time out. We say UBUNTU as “we are because you are” and our relevancy was hugely attached to your acceptance.

They say behind every successful man is a woman same as behind every successful program chair, there’s a committee. Need I say that behind the success of this program is a committee whose selfless services was rendered in all ramifications. If there comes an opportunity to work with certain individuals as a team, I would still think about you all.
To all Rotarians Present, behind the scene players to numerous to mention, thank you for given us a springboard to leap from.
To the man(District Rotaract Representative Adedeji Adeoluwa Windapo) that deemed me fit to take up this responsibility and provide a workable platform to explore, I say a huge thank you.

Perfection is something every individual work towards and no matter how much we try, we are still flawed. On this note, I’d like to tender an apology for all the short comings of the committee. Most especially, the persistent change in venue as well as the loss of audio during the movie night. Accept our sincere apology.

It is placed on record through testimonies received that a new heights as been set in terms of Rotaractors participation in Awareness program and I believe deep within me that it’s just a starting point to countless opportunities coming our way.
With over 180 Registered Rotaractors, more than 15 Rotarians, members of partnering organisations present and few Rotaractors not captured on the registration list, it’s safe to say, we had over 200 participants which is very rare in today’s modern Rotaract setting. Thank you all for joining us on this journey to put an end to the menace of Rape in our Society.

Thank you all for all you do🙇🏽‍♂️
