MARCH 2020 ADDRESS NOTE

DRR MARCH ADDRESS NOTE

Dear distinguished Rotaract members, it is my joy to welcome you to yet another month. The third month of the gregorian calendar; the ninth of the Rotary year. Let me also remind you all that this is the month of World Rotaract Week and District Conference and Convention!.

There is an adage that says where we are going is much important than where we are but as we progress, it is important to reflect on the past, inspire and create direction. Thus, the month of February was full of interesting and impactful activities.
The long pending Basic Education and Literacy project was eventually carried out in secondary schools, both in Lagos and Ogun State. The Students (winners) were presented with branded bag packs while textbooks and dictionaries were donated to their respective schools to equip the libraries. Also, we ensured a balanced project by extending the project and donating textbooks to primary school to improve the reading culture of the pupils.

The District Rotaract Representative Nominating Committee conducted election for the 2021/22 District Rotaract Representative involving four resourceful candidates on the 15th of February, 2020. The election saw Rotaractor Ayodeji Ezekiel Sobowale as the winner and he will be taking the mantle of the leadership as District Representative in 1st July, 2021. I register my hearty congratulations to him and urge the rest not to relent in serving humanity because their efforts are not unnoticed
Above all, Congratulations to the Rotaract Clubs for the active participation to decide through the ballot. Kudos!

The same day of the election, the District hosted the first ever Rota-Cultural fiesta. For me, there were big lessons to take away from the event. The unity of Rotaractors was put on litmus test. Despite politics and politicking, everyone had reasons to come together, merry and show strength of cultural diversity. As a youth, I see it as great mental attitude and discipline that there is unity of purpose that nothing can divide. I was amazed and I register my heartfelt appreciation to you all by not been in the news for wrong reasons. Yes, the first Rota-Cultural Fiesta was first of its kind in District 9110, a successful one, colourful and well attended. I am hopeful that the subsequent years from the coming DRRs will be better.

The month of March is designated for Water, Sanitation and hygiene (WASH), it’s important we put safety measures on ourselves by the use of hand sanitizers and proper hand washing to prevent coronavirus. I want to urge clubs show impacts in their communities and importantly, endeavour to promote the image of Rotary and Rotaract.

The count for the 36th District 9110 Conference and Convention has begun. The preparation has entered new gear while there is new level of commitments to ensure that we have a fantastic 4-days outing at Amador Hotel and Suites. There are host of sessions that will enhance your personal development, you will have good fun at Lekki Conservation Centre and Elegushi beach and opportunity to build network of quality contact and friendship. However, the registration is still very much ongoing at #3,500 till March 8th, from March 9th-22nd will be N4,000 and there is NO on-site registration. Accomodation still stand at N5,000 per individual, I urge everyone who wants to attend to register as soon as possible to be in the targeted 200 participants. I anticipate to see as many as possible there.

There is going to be Disaster Relief Summit for the volunteers on 17th – 18th March, 2020 at Rotary center, all volunteers are encouraged to avail themselves for the summit.

While Conference is already closeby, the date of All Nigeria Rotaract Multi-District Conference (NIGEROTA) is all at sight. I anticipate that District 9110 to storm the city of Porthacourt in good numbers. So many efforts have been invested by the committee to ensure hassle-free conference. Kindly register and encourage friends and service volunteers to do same.

Just as there is no limit to self discovery; there is also no limit to what you can accomplish. I want to remind you to take that bold step and march into greatness as we journey through the month of March.

Thank you and wonderful March to all.
