JANUARY ADDRESS NOTE

HAPPY NEW YEAR
The gregorian Calendar ended few hours ago; 12months, 52weeks, 365days and another year 2020 has begun. Dear Rotaractor, welcome to the new year 2020!.

The Rotary Calendar is now at half year; in the first six months, there were modulations for some projects to adapt to some prevalent circumstances. The task is quite stressing yet saying it has been a fulfilling half year will not be an exaggeration. Thanks to the ever dynamic team members who stood by through thick and thin.

Like the popular sacred book says; the glory of the latter will definitely be greater than the former. Whatever happened in the first six months are tips of iceberg, Permit me to tell you first that the second half of the year will be more exciting.

Fellow Rotaractors, few of the moments you must not hesitate to miss are the international trip to Cotonou and the District Conference. I want to prepare your mind that background efforts are gearing up to give the best moments that will last long in the memories for years.

January is a month designated to Vocational service. The unstable nature of economy and slim chances of getting white collar jobs in this current reality is increasingly giving importance to learning a vocation or engaging a vocational activity now popularly called “side hustle”. Also, where financial sustainability is of pressing concern due to under employment, has mandated the need to have legit mean of residual income through acquired skills in vocations. As young adults, I so much believes that vocational skills acquisition is one of the quickest route to financial liberation and I urge everyone to acquire one skill or the other.

Recall in September, the District in partnership with Rotaract Club of Lekki Phase 1 trained at least 248 young adult in various vocational activities. More like direct swapping of projects, the District shall be carrying out the only project left to be implemented in the first half of the year, that is Basic Education and Literacy Project. The plan is to hold inter-school debate where the winners will be presented prize and the District will equip the library of the school with textbooks.

One cannot deny there were high and low moments in 2019 but that you are alive to see year 2020 simply means you still have great things to accomplish.
Set achievable goals, don’t wait till you have resources (which you may never have) to do big things rather do small things in big ways, build network and contacts and importantly, be smart to identify opportunity.

The District still in the mood of the season, shall be having its new year party/evening with DG on Friday 10th of January, at the Rotary centre. The Lagos State government has donated a cow to the District.please try to make it a date, let’s enjoy ourselves, let’s enjoy Rotary and Merry.

Happy New year 2020!
