FEBRUARY 2019 ADDRESS NOTE

For as many that has the grace of Almighty to start the year 2020 with set goals and resolutions, let me ask you. Are you still on track to achieving the goals, are your new year resolutions still intact? Are you evaluating your steps to the goals? Are you on the right momentum? Do you still have moral compass to follow the directions?
If you wondering why I decided to ask all these, well, I am just at my desirous best to see more breakthrough from the Rotaractors and many getting to the promise land as time is moving tick tock from seconds to minutes to hours to days and weeks.

Month of January have passed just like in a twinkle of an eye, it can never come again but we can be in the memories of those things achieved in it.

The new month of February make it 5months left in this Rotary year. Definitely, the preparation/planning has begun for the elected leaders to ensure Rotary Opens Opportunities. The 2020-2021 theme is such a simple but powerful and prophetic. It is laced in enthusiasm and positivity that in Rotary/Rotaract, there is no limit to the resourcefulness, self discovery and personal development to knowledge and skill to address the needs of community and our world. Therefore, I charge you as members to optimize the 2020/21 theme to personal development and improve Rotaract experience.

Before I serve you with the expected projects and services for the month of February, permit me to discuss and give update on the pending Basic Education and Literacy projects. The delay in the execution of the project is purely administrative; the paper work. The District has sent letters to the Educations board and Education Ministry in Lagos and Ogun State respectively. Yesterday, we got a feedback from Lagos State Education board to include some details in our letter to enable approval but we are yet to get feedback from Ogun state ministry. I am hopeful that we will get this required approval in the coming days as soon as possible to enable us do the needful. We have procured the materials and already in our custody. So, I am of the assurance that the project will be carried out in a matter of time.

February is the month for international service. Every time Rotary affords us to extend fellowship and service across border, I am always of the idea that the participants make it worthwhile and funfilled because it is an opportunity to unlock new things, explore the environment (business wise) and learn new ideas. To ensure an international service trips that guarantees these qualities I mentioned demands top notch planning and logistics. Hence, the District international service trip has been postponed till after the District conference in March. However, let me say that the planning have started with reconnaissance trip to cotonou, the United President of Rotaract Club of Akowonjo, Rtr Taiwo Oladosu was on board with me to the trip and I can guarantee you will never regret going with the District and you will have fun aplenty, so start saving money for this anticipated trip.

The District Conference is fast approaching as well, the committee have started going round for the comfort of participants in terms of logistics. The registration fee will be #3,500 tomorrow February 2nd while accommodation fee is still #5,000. As at now, but we can record about 63 registrations and hope to double it before the end of this month and no on-site registration. I urge the presidents and clubs stakeholders to motivate members to pay for their registration before the end of the month to avoid loopholes in the logistics because we will start the procurement of conference materials by third week in February.

The update for the Rota-Culture event will be disseminated from the usual flow, that is, the ADRRs. I hope each area is gearing up to deliver their best at the festival. Cultural exhibition stands as one of the strength of Nigeria and we must show to the world our cultural diversities.

The fate of who becomes the District Rotaract Representative Nominee will be decided in this month of February. I must commend the nominating committee for ensuring a smooth process. Four names of qualified individuals have been released after the screening and the rest will be decided by the delegates from clubs in the election on the 15th of this month. Let me reiterate that regardless of who emerge as DRR nominee, the unity of District is non negotiable and nobody’s ambition is worth creating enemity. For the records, the candidates released by the Nominating committee are:

Rtr Ayodeji Sobowale (Rac Omole-Golden)
Rtr Afolabi Abdullahi (Rac Ota)
Rtr Samson Abamba (Rac Isolo)
Rtr Fathia Adekeye (Rac Gbagada South)
I register my best wishes to you all!

The council meeting was held last week Saturday 25th January at Ijebu ode. The turn out was not impressive at beginning with majority of council members and even board members absent, the attendance improved as the meeting progresses and it was a worthwhile moment discussing the progress of the District. For the first time, the Immediate Past Council Chairman, Rtr Muyiwa Fadairo presented his Stewardship report. Observations, comments and recommendations were noted and he will be effecting the corrections and present again at the next council in Lagos. Also, the bylaw has been put on hold by the council members next rotary year for proper review and amendment. I am sure the next review will pass through robust deliberations now that every one is gear towards having a better district.

Dear united Rotaract members, I will personally be monitoring Club progress on The Rotary Foundation in this month. Let us donate to change our world. Individuals having issues or need clarifications on Fund should mail me or come to visit the District office. Meanwhile, the giveme5 promo is open to all Rotaractors for participation. Also the PHF certificates and pins of newest 10 PHF in Rotaract District 9110 is available but individuals shall be decorated at the forthcoming District conference.

The sacred book says, love is the greatest. Endeavour you extend love to the needy, the sick, the less privileged and neighbours around you in the month on valentine.

Thank you and wish you the very best in February.

Happy new month!
