At the 1917 convention, outgoing Rotary President Arch Klumph proposed to set up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” In 1928, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International. Arch Klumph’s idea for an endowment fund dedicated to “doing good in the world” planted the seed of The Rotary Foundation in 1917. Thanks to his vision and staunch advocacy, and the extraordinary generosity of Rotary members worldwide, that fund has become one of the world’s leading humanitarian foundations
The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians and Rotary embodiment to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty and Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.
Dear Rotaract members, one outstanding fact that rightly emphasize the sustainability of The Rotary Foundation is that the Rotary Foundation fund has met over 90 percent of the target beneficiaries. This is a compelling fact that ensures continued effort to do more good to the world.
Definitely, the resources are limited as Rotaractors but as young vibrant members, the ideas to harness to the Foundation are unlimited. Hence, the Rotaract District will be hosting The Rotary Foundation Seminar this month. Let me raise your anticipation with many exciting features that will take place at the seminar; there is plan to decorate 15 lucky Rotaractors as Paul Harris Fellow, fantastic speakers and and lots of fun. All you just need is to buy as many ticket as you can at the rate of 500 naira each to be part of the draw. Further details about the seminar shall be circulated very soon.
Permit me to remind you that this is the month we need to do more to and activate every strategy to maximize donations into the Foundation by participating in the “giveme5” project of Rotary District. Fellow volunteers, the participation has been abysmally low but we can do more to rally round, therefore, I am challenging you to relate with friends and members, let your non Rotaractor friends buy the tickets, share the news to friends and colleagues at your offices to improve the situation.
Currently, the District is carrying out its 3days Family health days project for 2019 from October 31st to November 2nd at Oke Aje market in Ijebu Ode. The activities here has been quite engaging and draining but it is a rare privilege to be blessed with these fantastic Rotaractors who are holding forth for the District.
On Wednesday, I received the mail copy of the Account of 2018~19 from the Immediate Past District Rotaract Representative and it has been circulated immediately to Presidents platform. I will keep you updated in case of any.
The eagerness to remind all on the importance and impacts of The Rotary Foundation and excitement of the plan to host a lit Rotary Foundation Seminar of Rotaract District got me carried away to jump courtesy and new month compliments. It is my pleasure to welcome you to a brand new month of November to remember, the fifth month of Rotary Calendar and eleventh month of the gregorian calendar. I urge all clubs to channel efforts to work towards the Rotary goals through fellowship.
Mahatma Gandhi says “God is the hardest taskmaster I have known on this earth, and he tries you through and through. And when you find that your faith is failing or your body is failing you, and you are sinking, he comes to your assistance somehow or other and proves to you that you must not lose your faith and that he is always at your beck and call, but on his terms, not on your terms. So I have found. I cannot really recall a single instance when, at the eleventh hour, he has forsaken me”.
I have found myself in the situation above couple of times, I am sure you too might be passing through one thing or expecting one thing to turn around your life especially since the beginning of the year and you’re about to loose hope at the eleventh month. Read again and digest, I say, never loose hope
Happy new month.
